U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has arrived in Cairo for talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on the Middle East peace process and weapons sales. The defense secretary is on a Middle East tour that began on Monday in Jordan. Ahead of his departure for Egypt, Gates said he would also be talking to Mubarak about Iran's growing strength in the region and the situation in Lebanon. The U.S. defense secretary's trip to Egypt was delayed by a day due to a fierce sandstorm that closed Cairo airport for several hours Tuesday. After his talks in Egypt, Defense Secretary Gates is to arrive in Israel. Israel is to ask him to increase military assistance which currently stands at 2.4 billion dollars.
